UnInvited By: Sophie Jordan

UnInvited by Sophie Jordan is the next book I am recommending. This book is filled with suspense and action with a little bit of science fiction.

Davy has everything every teenage girl could wish for. An amazing boyfriend, a good future with Juilliard, and the homecoming crown, but all of that comes crashing down when her genetics test comes back positive for the Homicidal Tendency Syndrome. All of her friends and family avoids her, she is put in a special class with other people like her who are basically treated like the murderers they may become. Then she meets Sean who is also a “carrier”. He understands what she feels and tells her that only she controls her actions. Will Davy ever be able to trust herself again?

I liked the way that Sean was sarcastic so the book wouldn’t seem sinister or sad. This book has a sequel which is called UnLeashed.

What I didn’t like was the way her parents were not able to do more to keep her there instead of being shipped off to who-knows-where.

I give this book a 4.5 star rating.

Land of No Angels By: N. R. Wick

Romance, action, and fantasy all collide in Land of No Angels by N. R. Wick. This is an absolutely amazing book.

Rebecca Ashford and her sister Errol have spent the last year of their lives hidden in the family’s tornado bunker. But on one night, the sound of a baby screaming cracks through the silence and Errol tries to save it, only to be poisoned by a demon. Rebecca now has to trust the mysterious survivor named Fox to help her find a cure. Along the way, she and Fox encounter demons and monsters, all the while Rebecca struggles with the magic that is supposed to assist them to locate the ingredients to cure her sister. Will Rebecca and Fox Make it in time to save her sister?

This is apart of a trilogy. The second book is called Land of No Mortals.

I liked how Errol saw the good in things even after she had been poisoned and pretty much was slowly dying.

I kind of wished this book had showed what Fox was thinking sometimes.

I give this book a 4 star rating.4-stars-2.jpg

A Matter Of Days By: Amber Kizer Reviewed By: Ana S. (Truman Nominee)

*WARNING: Book contains language and is recommended to a mature audience. Also to people with strong stomachs.*

After Nadia's mother died day 56, Nadia and her brother, Rabbit, are left alone in a BluStar disease overtaken world. Nadia and Rabbit will have to make a cross country trip to Virginia. There, their uncle and grandpa will take care of them. Nadia and Rabbit's journey will be filled with heartache, suspense, big guys with guns, crazy ladies, new friendships, and lots and lots of driving. They will have "to be the cockroaches" of this new, crazy, post apocalyptic world. "Will they be a survivor or a statistic?"

What I liked about the book was Nadia's determination. Lots and lots of things went wrong but Nadia was headstrong and was determined to survive.

What I didn't like about the book was at some parts, the book was really slow. It was made up though with some action and suspense scenes.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. (I know how short this review is but I didn't want to give too much information out.)

The Elementia Chroncles: Quest for Justice

Image from Amazon.com
Stan2012, or Stan, has joined the Elementia server at a dangerous time. Unbeknownst to him, a new law is about to go into action. The ruler of the server, King Kev, is going to ban all noobs from Element City! Stan decides to head to the Adorian Village, a village devoted to helping new players. On his way, he meets Charlie and Kat, two other low level players, and has to deal with mobs and griefers that try to kill him and his friends.

Once Stan, Kat, and Charlie reach the Adorian Village, they meet 4 players who will aid them in their quest; Jayden, Archie, Goldman, or G, and Sally. They go through a training session on how to survive in Minecraft, which includes learning archery, fighting, crafting, mining, and farming. While Stan is talking to an older player, Crazy Steve, about the corrupt government, Crazy Steve is killed by a griefer. Stan is a little downhearted for a little while, but a good talk with Sally, who he has a crush on, gets him right back on his feet.

After finishing up the training program, Steve, Charlie, and Kat all head off to Element City to find a job and take up a role in society. However, almost all of the folks are prejudiced against noobs except one, Blackraven. He hires them, but his house ends up being griefed and Blackraven is presumably killed inside. Right after that whole turn of events, King Kev comes out to announce that all players under level 15 will be banished from Element City. Outraged over Blackraven’s death and the law, Stan takes Kat’s bow and tries to assassinate the King!

The King sends his army out after Stan, Charlie, and Kat, but first, he destroys the Adorian Village, along with killing the mayor, Adoria. Stan is heartbroken and furious, so he decides to revolt! With the help of Charlie and Kat, they head out to find the secret stash of King Kev, and start a revolt against the king. Along the way, they learn the history of Elementia’s past and make some friends who turn out to be powerful allies, such as the Apothecary, Bill, Ben, and Bob. They grow ever stronger, but will it be enough to defeat the King and his army?

My favorite part of The Elementia Chronicles is that it incorporated lots of different situations and emotions. There were moments of excitement, sadness, anger, worry, and the author even managed to throw in a tiny bit of romance! That’s not easy to do!
I really liked this book, but there was something I didn’t really like. I didn’t like how some of the first characters introduced in the book, Charlemange and Caesar are barely used! They just seem like dust bunnies sitting in the corner of a gigantic library. Unimportant and barely noticed! I hope the author uses at least one of them more in the next book. Even though they’re villains, I hope there’s more character development. It feels like something’s missing.
Overall, I give this book a 5/5 star rating!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The book begins by Harry getting a letter from the Weasleys asking Harry if he would like to come to the Quidditch World Cup. Delighted Harry asks his mean aunt and uncle Dursley  if he can go. The Dursleys tell him he can go with the Weasleys.

A week later the Weasleys show up to gather Harry and his things but they tried traveling by floo powder Little did they realize the Dursleys have an electric fireplace.

The students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons arrive on Halloween and enter their names into the impartial judge and wait untill the names are spit out. But then something unexpected happens, A fourth champion is spit out even though the rules say only one student from a school may be champion.
The first challenge Harry overcomes by using a summoning charm on his broomstick. The second task Harry saves the life of his friend Ron from merpeople. But then the third task Harry has to fight an adversary he thought to be dead after fighting through a deadly maze. Then someone he thought was a friend turns out to be an imposter and a supporter of Lord Voldemort. Then they fight in an epic smackdown and like always Harry wins.

My favorite part of the book was when Dumbledore asked Harry if he put his name in the Goblet Of Fire super calmly while everyone else is freaking out about it. I really like Dumbledore’s character because he is really calm in the face of danger and he's not really mean like Snape and he really acts like a father figure to Harry. I really didn’t like the ending where that one guy died. I thought this part of the book was really sad because this particular character was really nice and tried for a rematch in Quidditch after Harry nearly fell in the dementor attacks. In also thought this was sad because he was really cool and helpful to people and then he gets shot down by Voldemort. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars mainly because of the death.

Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys go to the Quidditch World Cup and are amazed when the team their sporting wins. But then evil strikes and death eaters terrorize the campsites. Mr. Weasley tells them to run and hide in the woods. After running into the woods the spot the dark mark which has not been seen since Voldemort's demise. After the ministry concludes that Mr. Crouch’s elf did it, Harry and his friends go to Hogwarts and get the surprise….. That the triwizard tournament is being hosted at Hogwarts.

Delirium, Pandemonium, Requiem

Lena and her best friend Hana are both eagerly awaiting their cures. The thing that will protect them from contracting the disease. Lena has always been careful, quite unlike rebellious Hana, but when she meets the boy with hair the color of autumn leaves her life takes a turn down a path of rebellion, sorrow, and (most importantly) love.

In a futuristic society amor deleria nervosa is the root of all diseases; cancer, heart failure, even madness. Commonly known as love.

One thing I really enjoyed about this book was the character development. It was interesting to see not only the visible features of the character but also how the cure affects their personality.

I guess the main thing I didn’t like about this book was that the “good guys” weren’t all good. They were murderous and manipulative almost as much so as the “bad guys”. I just wish they could have been a bit more righteous.

Overall I would give this trilogy 4 out of 5 stars.

Carley Connors ends up heading to a foster home after her step-father beat her and her mother, with her mother ending up going to a hospital for the meantime. Carley's foster home is with the Murphys, with a Red Sox firefighter father, a judgmental 5 year old, two little "superheroes", and the world's most perfect mother. At first, she hates staying there. She just wants to be with her mom again but, she starts to love the family. Just as she seems to love the perfect family, something changes in this perfect world they created for her.

One thing I liked about the book was the mother. She's so nice to Carley, even when she is the rudest at times.

One thing I didn't like about the book was the step-father. He was mentioned a few times and was described as a monster! Carley didn't deserve what she had coming to her!

This book is recommended for people who love realistic fiction books. This is also a short read, and I finished this book in two days. Highly recommended when you need to make a quick book report or book review for school.
