The first book I am going to recommend is The Mortal Instruments. The genre is adventure, fantasy, combined with romance.
It's about a girl, Clary Fray, who learns that she is a Shadowhunter. Angel and human blood runs through her veins. Shadowhunters are people who fight She meets some other Shadowhunters, but before she can actually understand what a Shadowhunter is her mother is kidnapped. Clary goes to the Shadowhunters for help. While training, she gets a little crush on the infuriating Jace Lightwood. He has the looks of an angel but once he opens his mouth, he is a complete jerk. Will Clary save her mom? How will Clary and Jace turn out?
This is a series of six books and it does have a prequel. The prequel is called The Infernal Devices, although you don't have to read them to read this series.
* I recommend this series to a mature audience since it gets more graphic as the series goes on. *
